Boath House, Nairn, Scotland

My absolute favorite is Boath House on the northeast cost of Scotland, in Nairn.

A beautiful regency house with an interesting historical past.

The owners, Wendy and Don, we have known for a long time now and they run their hotel with love, passion, humour and a sort of bluntness on Don’s side, which is not always understood by everyone. But we love this man for it.

All rooms have a different interior. Most are a mixture of typical Britisch elements (think poster beds, baths on legs, thick curtains, warm colors) but there are also rooms in the basement that have a contemporary design.

Very special is the family cottage on the property. Useful if you ‘re with a family of four, but also very romantic to stay in as a couple.

The garden surrounding the house lends itself to a lovely walk. Flowing waters, wild geese and ducks, a lake and walled gardens.

Incidentally, in the area of Nairn there are many famous golf courses for lovers.

It’s quite difficult to find really good places to eat in this part of Scotland. With the exception of the restaurant at Boath House .

This restaurant earned, in the course of the years that we stayed there, a Michelin star. Very deserved. Every night they have a set menu with several small courses. A true treat too look forward to.

But my hands itch to redo their restaurant as an interior designer. They do really need to cosy up the place a liitle with better lightning, a working fireplace and some more unique items and furniture.

Then again; Their breakfasts are also something that we love to come back for again and again.

Should you, however, need to have an early check-out in the morning, do not count on a catered breakfast or that there is someone to carry your bags. But even this fact does not prevent us from always wanting to come back to them.
