Hotel SUMAHAN on the water, Istanbul

Last april my brother, sister and I took my mum on a surprise trip to Istanbul for her 70th birthday. I had been there a few times, but for my mother it was her first experience. We had kept it a secret for her until a week for departure and she was thrilled when we told her. In the first place because it is such a rarity at that age to go on a holiday just with your own kids, without their families and second of all because she finally had the change to see Istanbul. Because I had stayed on the European side during my previous visits, I had decided that it would be fun to find a hotel on the Asia side this time. My preference mostly is for the smaller boutique hotels, for their personal atmosphere and approach.

So I choose SUMAHAN on the water.

It turned out to be a hit, also because Transavia flies to Istanbul nowadays and unlike KLM, lands at the new airport on the asian side. All the rooms lie just above the water with a magnificent view. The hotel boat takes you back and forth to the other side on set times a few times a day, but you can also reserve it for private usage at any time you like( price not included). At the end of the day, spend on the chaotic, busy other side, it was a relief to come back to the much quieter Asian side. Therefore we decided most nights to stay in and have supper on the hotel terrace, because their menu had a great mix between turkish and European food and the place was to divine to leave again for the evening!
